Burton: I’d love to be back here (Philadelphia), I’ve always said that

7 March 2018 NFL News & Updates

In a TMZ interview, Trey Burton was frank in his take of the offseason rumors stating, “One thing that is completely false is that people have been saying that I’ve turned down an offer from Philly when that’s the furthest from the case… They haven’t offered me anything. We actually haven’t talked contract extensions probably, not last year but the year before, so 2016.”

Burton went on to say he’d love to be back with the Philadelphia Eagles but that he understands the current cap situation. He was offered a 3-year vet minimum deal with the franchise during the 2016 contract discussions but opted not to go that route.

As things currently stand, Burton made the right choice to bet on himself as Spotrac has his market value set at $7M per year for the 2018 free agency period. That is an amount the Eagles would struggle to get to and likely why no true offer has been made to keep the talented tight end this offseason.
