The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the playoffs, for the third time in a row. The Eagles got business done, defeating the New York Giants 34-17.
All year; injuries plagued this team and today, it seemed like they would be the death of the Eagles today. However, like they had all season, they overcame it to win.
Another theme of this team was the next man up and today, it was very evident the Eagles’ players had that mentality. Countless players stepped up to the plate and hit the ball out of the park. No one more important than running back Boston Scott.
Scott was the spark the Eagles needed. He totaled 138 total yards and three touchdowns. He is the first Eagles running back to run for three touchdowns since LeSean McCoy in 2011.
Quarterback Carson Wentz carried this team when he needed to and lead them all along the way. He threw for 289 yards and one touchdown. Throwing for 289 yards meant he became the first quarterback in Eagles history to throw for over 4,000 yards. His sole touchdown pass went to tight end Josh Perkins on a nice cross field throw.
Although the Eagles defense didn’t have the best game, they made plays when they needed to. Safety Malcolm Jenkins forced a fumble after Giants quarterback tried to coral a bad snap. This ball was picked up by Fletcher Cox on the Giants own two yard line. That play was the big turning point, it put the Eagles up by 10.
This team never gave up, they never gave it, they fought until the very end. Are they going to win it all? There’s no need to think of that now. They have a chance now. NFC East champs never felt so good.
