Sidney Jones now listed as QUESTIONABLE; 5 players OUT

4 October 2019 Uncategorized

Sidney Jones is now listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, according to Mike Kaye of NJ.com. Head Coach Doug Pederson said earlier, that he expected Jones to play. Apparently, things have changed and his hamstring injury has left him up in the air for this weekend.

The following Eagles players have been ruled out this Sunday against the Jets:

CBs Ronald Darby and Avonte Maddox are still dealing with hamstring and neck/concussion injuries, respectively. With Jones questionable for Sunday, the Eagles have three healthy corners (Douglas, James, Scandrick). Depending on Jones availability, the Eagles could bring up D.J. White or Ryan Lewis from the practice squad.

TE Alex Ellis is dealing with a knee injury he either got against the Packers or early this week in practice. He popped up on Wednseday’s report, but it was never specified how he exactly got the injury or how long he will be out. That leaves the Eagles with just two TEs again. Possibly, Doug thinks about bringing up Perkins from the practice squad, but with the injuries to the CB position, I’m not sure we will be able to. We all know the Eagles feel comfortable with two TEs. We all saw what happened last time the Eagles only had two, though. I wanted three TEs on the roster before the season and I still feel that way. The Eagles run 12 personnel a lot and with Goedert battling his injuries, and they still need to have depth there. As stated, the Eagles might have to tough it out this week, as there are injuries at other key areas.

WR DeSean Jackson will be out again with an abdomen injury. The same injury that has kept him out the previous three games. Their is quite some uncertainty with his injury. There are so may reports from him returning next week, to two weeks, to needing surgery and missing six weeks. He could probably play through this but with a high risk of re-injuring it. Maybe he should get the surgery and be ready for the postseason. He can’t be replaced these next few games but I’d rather figure things out now and have him when it really matters. Not saying every game doesn’t matter, the Eagles need to think long term.

DT Timmy Jernigan’s foot injury will keep him out for a third game in a row. His original timetable to return was to 4-6 weeks.

The Eagles will have some very important decisions to make before Sunday’s game. Do they bring in a third tight end or are they content with two again? If Jones sits out, do the Birds bring up a practice squad cornerback or maybe even both?

The Jets will also be without a key player, as starting QB Sam Darnold will be out with an enlarged spleen.

Both teams have their injuries but the Eagles should be able to capitalize on their last home game of the month, before going on the road for three weeks against the Vikings, Cowboys and Bills, respectively.
