10 Days’ Until Kickoff

29 August 2019 Uncategorized

With 10 days left until Eagles kickoff, we here at 4th and Jawn continue our countdown to the season opener with one of my favorite players to ever wear an eagles uniform, DeSean Jackson.

DeSean Jackson was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Second round with the 49th overall selection. Jackson went to the University of California, where he established himself as one of the most explosive players in the NCAA. Jackson finished his college career with 2,423 yards and 22 touchdowns.

DeSean was forced right into a starting spot his rookie season with injuries to Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown. Jackson’s rookie season will be remembered by some for his premature touchdown celebration against the Dallas Cowboys, where he threw the ball behind him before entering the endzone.

If you take away that blunder, Jackson had a stellar rookie season. He owns Eagles rookie receiving yard record with 912 yards. Jackson also had a huge catch in the NFC championship against the Arizona Cardinals, hauling in a 62 yard touchdown early in the 4th quarter to take a 25-24 lead.

DeSean built on his rookie season, and established himself as one of the most dangerous players in the NFL. Jackson had back to back 1000 yard seasons in 2009 and 2010. Jackson averaged a crazy 22.5 yards a catch in 2010. In week 16 of the 2010 season, Jackson returned a punt for a touchdown with no time left to cap off one of the biggest comebacks in NFL history. Every Eagles fan knows this game as the Miracle at the Meadowlands #2.

After a career year in 2013, second year head coach Chip Kelly cut DeSean Jackson, in one of the most bizzare offseasons this team has ever been apart of. Chip Kelly released DeSean due to some skeptical reports about his ties to gang activity, and his attitude towards him. After cutting Jackson, Chip Kelly went a combined 18-29 and was fired from two different head coaching jobs.

After stints with the Redskins and Buccaneers, Jackson is back in an Eagles uniform and I could not be more excited. He is easily the most exciting player maybe besides Michael Vick this team has had in recent memory. He should be a massive addition for this team, and should help stretch the field for a team that struggled getting the ball down field last season.
