13 Days’ Until Kickoff
26 August 2019 Eagles News
With 13 days left until Eagles kickoff, 4th and Jawn continues its countdown with taking a look at number 13 on our current roster, Nelson Agholor. One of our super bowl heroes, Nelly was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1st round with the 20th overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.
Agholor was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to the United States at the age of 5. Nelson took up football at a young age, and committed to play at the University of Southern California. Agholor excelled at USC, racking up 1313 yards on 104 catches in his Junior year.
Agholor declared for the NFL draft after his Junior year, and stepped right into a starting role his rookie year for the Eagles. Agholor struggled mightily in his first two seasons under Chip Kelly, and became a player fans loved to hate.
Nelson combined for a whomping 648 yards in 28 games in his first 2 seasons, and looked to be out the door if he didn’t step up big time in his 3rd season. Agholor did just that and then some, putting up 786 yards on 62 catches. Agholor excelled in the slot receiver position, where he should of been at the start of his career.
Agholor and starting quarterback Carson Wentz had an instant connection once 2017 started, as on only the 3rd play of the season, Wentz connected with Agholor on a spectacular 58 yard touchdown reception. That play really set the tone for the season, and Agholor was able to keep up his terrific play in the playoffs.
Nelly was a huge part of the Eagles Super Bowl run in 2017. Agholor was spectacular in the Super Bowl, getting open all night for Nick Foles. Agholor put up 84 yards in the Super Bowl, and made a couple of huge plays down the stretch to help this team grasp its 1st Super Bowl.
Nelson Agholor enters the 2019 season as the Eagles starting slot receiver, and is under some pressure to perform. Agholor is in a contract year, and the Eagles offense is stacked with weapons. Agholor is one of the most interesting players to keep an eye on this season.
