Game Preview: What to watch for tonight vs. Titans

8 August 2019 Uncategorized

Tonight, football is back baby. The Philadelphia Eagles are taking on the Tennessee Titans in their first preseason game. It’s just the beginning but there’s going to be a lot to look at for. As the roster starts to take shape, here’s what you need to be aware of.

Firstly, the biggest story tonight is at quarterback. No, it’s not about Carson Wentz this time either. Tonight it’s all about Nate Sudfeld. It’s a big year for him as he’s playing to prove he not only can backup Wentz, but potentially start in this league. He takes his first steps in his new role tonight. The Eagles need to see what he’s about in a bigger role and the Titans being fourth a tough defense so it’ll be a fun matchup to watch.

Secondly, the cornerback battle is definitely the battle with the most impact on the first team. Ronald Darby, Rasul Douglas, Jalen Mills, Avonte Maddox and Sidney Jones are all candidates for the two starting jobs. We’ll likely see just Maddox, Douglas and Jones tonight for a select few plays, but regardless, any time you’re on the field you’re auditioning. Watching these cornerbacks compete for the first team spots is yet another big storyline to watch.

Thirdly, the rookie running back Miles Sanders will feature tonight and it’s his time to showcase just how good he is. The Eagles get to see him live against another NFL team for the first time. They’re excited to see him perform on the NFL stage and this will be his debut.

And last but not least, the defensive end position was left shook this offseason when Chris Long and Michael Bennett left the team. Recently, camp standout Joe Ostman tore his ACL, yet again hurting this position. Tonight’s an opportunity for a few of these games down the depth chart to showcase themselves and make a case for a roster spot. Defensive end has been a strength position for the Eagles for years so it’s extra important it stays that way this season.

It’s just the first preseason game but there’s a ton to watch out for. But, what’s really great about tonight is that football is back at the Linc. The season is almost here.
