Breaking: Eagles finalizing a deal to send DE Michael Bennett to Patriots
8 March 2019 Eagles News
The Eagles are trading away defensive end Michael Bennett to the New England Patriots.
Earlier today, it was reported Bennett would likely be traded or cut if no trade materialized. The Eagles were able to get a deal with the Patriots.
Bennett had a great year for the Eagles, a year in which he racked up nine sacks for the team. His cap number this season would have been $7.2 million and by trading him, they save that money.
Over the past week or so, the Eagles have been clearing a lot of cap space. With this move, the Eagles are now under just $27 million in cap space. And, with that being said, the Eagles are going to use that money to make their team better.
Overall, this is a big move for the Patriots as they are getting a good player. For the Eagles, it is about the bigger picture. There is draft picks involved, but that compensation is still being worked out.
