Reaction: Eagles come up big and keep their season alive with a 30-23 win over the Rams

16 December 2018 Eagles News

Your Eagles are back, beating the Los Angeles Rams 30-23 after a final defensive stand.

The Eagles, led by quarterback Nick Foles looked a little differently today. Foles completed 24/31 passes for 270 yards and one interception. Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was on the receiving end of most of those passes, catching eight for 160 yards.

Running the ball game easy to the Eagles today. As a team, they scored three rushing touchdowns. Wendell Smallwood punched in two touchdowns to go with his 48 rushing yards. Josh Adams scores the other one.

One note on the offensive, they looked much more comfortable. Play calling was better, establishing the run was the key. Foles made the plays in the end, but it wouldn’t have been easy without an established run game. Really, the Eagles dominated the line of scrimmage tonight on both sides of the ball.

Defensively, the Eagles were great, forcing two big turnovers. The front four pressured Jared Goff all night and it showed in his play. When it came down to it, Goff couldn’t make the big play.

They limited the big plays downfield and looked really good. Everyone stepped up and it showed. Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was dominant and Michael Bennett continued to cause havoc.

It’s a big turn around for the Eagles who now sit just 1/2 game out of the wildcard. This game was a scratch out earlier this week, but the team proved everyone wrong. They played like the Eagles of old and deserved to win.

Shoutout of the Game:

This has to go to cornerback Avonte Maddox. He was excellent in coverage especially in the red zone. He stuffed all of the Rams attempts at the end of the first half as well as at the end of the game. He also made a big tackle to stop Todd Gurley and keep him in bounds at the end. And, don’t forget his great interception. He was fantastic and was a big boost to an Eagles secondary that has struggled as of late.

Up next for the Eagles, a home game versus the Houston Texans. If they can continue this and win, the playoff push is right there for them. Fly Eagles Fly.
