Tale of the tape: The Eagles defensive line dominated the game vs. Falcons

7 September 2018 Uncategorized

The Eagles won last night and their defensive line set the tone.

Causing havoc was the name of the game for the Eagles defensive line. They made Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan nervous all game. Getting constant pressure on the quarterback in the red zone was the main reason why after five trips the Falcons only ended up with three points.

One player to highlight for the Eagles was defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. He ate up almost everything the Falcons were trying to do offensively up the middle. That caused the Falcons to run outside and after an early adjust with the  defensive line, the Eagles took that threat away.

On a day where the Eagles offense struggled, the defense and defensive line looked like they were in mid season form. And, this is a defensive line that will get Timmy Jernigan back at some point this season.

The collective effort of the four defensive lineman showed. Together they were able to nullify the run and make Ryan’s job a lot harder. Those red zone trips became impossible for the Falcons because the Eagles were able to just run their defensive line and drop everyone else, and the defensive line still got pressure.

The game is run at the line of scrimmage and the Eagles were able to dominate the Falcons with their defensive line. Looking forward, the Eagles need to lean off of their defensive line this season because they have the depth and skill to carry this team all year.
