3 Players to focus on in the final preseason game

30 August 2018 Eagles News NFL News & Updates Opinion

Don’t worry Eagles fans, the start of the regular season is almost here. The reigning super bowl champs play their last preseason game tonight against the New York Jets. The Eagles will officially open up their season against the Atlanta Falcons next Thursday night.

Tonight could be a big night for a few Eagles players. The Eagles still have a few roster spots up for grabs before the final cuts to the 53 man roster. Here are a few players to keep an eye on tonight:

Chance Warmack:

Warmack has been a massive disappointment since signing with the Eagles last spring. The Eagles signed him to be their 6th or 7th offensive lineman, filling in on the interior if anyone went down, however he has not stepped up to the task. The Eagles can save 1.2 million by cutting Warmack before the start of the season and it looks like that is a realistic possibility. Warmack does not provide the versatility of other lineman on the roster, as he is limited to playing Guard and cannot kick outside to tackle if need be. Tonight will be his last chance to keep a roster spot.

Donnell Pumphrey:

The 2nd year running back will make his preseason debut tonight against the Jets. Pumphrey is looking to make a final push for the 4th running back spot, or force the eagles to keep 5 running backs. Pumphrey was drafted last year to be a future change of pace back for the Eagles, and has not lived up to the hype. He had a good start to training camp and was turning some heads, however he suffered an injury which has kept him out of the first 3 preseason games. Pumphrey’s injury has allowed undrafted rookie Josh Adams and second year back Wendell Smallwood to get extra playing time. I expect Pumphrey to get plenty of action tonight.

Josh Adams:

The undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame has been the fan favorite out of camp this season. The 21 year old has been very impressive this preseason, and has taken firm grasp of the Eagles 4th running back spot. Adams will most likely get the start out of the backfield tonight against the Jets. If Adams can have a big game tonight, he is a lock to make the final 53 man roster.
