Flash back Friday: Eagles beat Redskins in season opener 30-17

20 October 2017 Eagles News

The Eagles went to Washington in their season opener and defeated the Redskins 30-17. With the Redskins coming to town this week, let’s take a close look at week one clash, which saw the Eagles soar to victory.

The Eagles started the season off strong with this win. Although they lost Ronald Darby, who has yet to come back from his ankle injury, the legend of Patrick Robinson was born. Robinson has been one of the Eagles best defensive players thus far this season playing both slot cornerback and outside cornerback.

The defense did a great job pressuring Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins, sacking him four times and making things really uncomfortable for him. They also started the season holding the Redskins to under one hundred yards of rushing, a small glimpse of what is to come. The Eagles have the best run defense in the NFL, only one running back (Kareem Hunt) has run for more than 40 yards on them.

The Eagles offense put on a nice display with Carson Wentz leading the way. He threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor led the team in receiving yards on the day, while LeGarrette Blount led the team in rushing.

Overall, the Eagles really controlled this game versus the Redskins as they never trailed in the game. Although you can say the Eagles are a much better team than they were in week one, they still looked very good versus the Redskins.

Monday Night should be no different for the Eagles. The Redskins are banged up and the Eagles know exactly what they are getting into. Being at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles and the Eagles faithful are going to make things uncomfortable for the Redskins and I expect they will replicate the performance from week one.
