Eagles training camp recap: Day 2, a new duo arises, Pumphrey exceeding expectations
28 July 2017 Eagles News
The Eagles picked it up today.
Today marked the real beginning of Eagles training camp as the team participated in 7-on-7 drills and team periods. Unlike yesterdays practice, today was a lot more competition.
Alshon Jeffery and Carson Wentz are forming a duo
Although it is just day two, Jeffery and Wentz are forming a dynamic duo.
Alshon Jeffery just catches everything. High passes, passes right to him, sliding catches on underthrown balls… #Eagles

Wentz tested that theory about just needing to get the ball close to Alshon Jeffery. He threw one way behind him and Jefferey snagged it.

It seems Wentz has already found out, where ever you put it, Jeffery will go get it.
Going forward, this duo has the potential to become one of the league’s best. We know Wentz has the ability to unleash the football, but last season, he did not have the receivers to target. With Jeffery in town, Wentz is going to be able to let the ball fly knowing Jeffery will go get it.
The slot position
This position is up in the air and it seems the Eagles will use a number of different players in there this season.
Donnel Pumphrey catching all kinds of passes out of the backfield and from the slot during this full-team period. #Eagles

Jordan Matthews juked Malcolm Jenkins to the ground at line of scrimmage, hauled in pass from Wentz in the slot. #Eagles

#Eagles clearly rolling through different packages. Just had Torrey Smith, Alshon Jeffery on the outside with Trey Burton in the slot.

The Eagles have a plethora of players they can play in the slot. Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Trey Burton, and even Donnel Pumphrey we all see time in the slot.
Depending on the package, all of those players offer the team something different and come September, the Eagles slot position will cause opposing defenses a lot of trouble.
Donnel Pumphrey
Staying with the Pumphrey theme, he looks like he is in for a big role with the Eagles this season.
I'm still amazed by how many 1st team looks Donnel Pumphrey gets, for being 4th round pick. Can't recall a similar situation from the past.

Whether he is in the slot or in the backfield, the Eagles have been given him the ball, he is catching a lot of passes. Could he be the Eagles secret weapon?
The bottom line is this, although it is still early, it is good to see the Eagles offense clicking and looking like a very sharp unit. The Eagles defense is always going to be good, but going into this season the biggest question was the offense.
Already we are seeing a revamped offense and an offense that looks like it could be lethal. As the season nears look out for the Eagles offensive unit.
