Dallas Goedert is the Eagles’ secret weapon in 2020

19 August 2020 Uncategorized

Dallas Goedert had a great 2019, by anyone’s standards.  In fact, his sophomore season was so good that after only 2 years, people are already clamoring for him to take Zach Ertz’s roster spot! In reality, Goedert is a seemingly very good player who only looks like he’s going to get better at this point.

In 2019, Goedert flashed his athletic ability and his after the catch movement combined with his already potent blocking skills on his way to 58 catches, 607 yards, and 5 TD’s while still playing second fiddle to Ertz.  This alone should tell you that he is on his way to being a top tier TE1 in this league.

Goedert came into last season with some high expectations. He had a relatively quiet rookie season and was expected to contribute much more, now that he was fully the 2nd tight end behind Ertz.  He did just that, finishing in the top 10 among TE’s for catches, touchdowns, and yards as a backup.  He was also a factor down the stretch and played an instrumental part in taking down the Cowboys in the crucial week 16 matchup that the Eagles won 17-9, having a career-high 9 catches for 91 yards and a score while Ertz was fighting a lacerated kidney suffered during the game. In that game, he notched the 2nd highest  receiving grade of any Eagles receiver in the entire season.

This year, Goedert has bigger expectations than ever.  In the 2020 Draft, the Eagles drafted Jalen Reagor in the first round as well as John Hightower and Quez Watkins in later rounds.  DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery will be back too.  All of this bodes well for Goedert, as he figures to get open much more freely and the Eagles should be able to move the ball down the field with one of the most athletic tight ends in the game.

With the NFL season only 3 weeks ago and everyone raring to go, training camp started yesterday and so far we have clamored to hear any bit, any piece, any morsel of information that we can find, and we have learned Carson Wentz is having a great camp and so are both Ertz and Goedert.  Above is a possible Catch of Camp nominee, as Goedert goes way up to tip a Wentz pass to himself in the endzone, falling down with it in the process.  We have seen this before with Goedert showing us his athleticism, and I can’t wait for him to put it all on display for the Birds this year.
