Breakout Candidate: WR Quez Watkins

11 July 2021 Uncategorized

Every year there’s a few players who take on bigger roles and become much more important to their teams. For the Eagles, this transition for a certain player just seems natural.

By now, you’re probably wondering who this player is. The player who’s going to breakout for the Eagles is wide receiver Quez Watkins.

Last season, we saw just a small sample size of what Watkins can do. He was only on the field for 119 snaps last season. And, in those snaps he was targeted just 13 times. However, Watkins was the only player in the NFL targeted 13 or fewer times with multiple 30-yard catches. He has big player ability.

We saw that big play ability demonstrated on his one touchdown reception versus the Arizona Cardinals. He caught a screen pass, made a spin move and was gone for a 32 yard touchdown.

With a new quarterback on the helm who likes to move around in the pocket and can extend plays, this bolds well for a player with Watkins’ skill set. He’s a quick wide receiver with sharp, fast cuts, when the plays live, not many players are going to keep up with him.

And, further more, there’s a new coaching staff in town. One who can maximize this skill set more often than not. Using him on screen passes, quick hitches and obviously, the deep ball. If there any player on the Eagles to take a big leap next season it’s Watkins.

A player with his big play ability needs to be utilized. For the Eagles next season, it’s very possible we see Watkins line up outside with Devonta Smith and Jalen Reagor is the slot. That’s three very dangerous players when you get them the ball. All of a sudden the Eagles playmakers are looking scary again.
