2021 Draft Profile: Virginia Tech CB Caleb Farley

6 January 2021 CORNERBACK DRAFT Philadelphia Eagles

Caleb Farley is one of the most interesting prospects in this years draft class. Former quarterback in high school turned wide receiver in his first year at Virginia Tech. Then transitioned to the defensive side of the football to become a cornerback. Only having one year of cornerback experience, you wouldn’t know it by watching his tape. Farley is a high upside prospect.

Strenghts- Farley has been gifted with a long frame with physical tools. Has rare change of speed ability. Possesses a 2nd gear on deep route coverages. Reads and reacts to short intermediate route at a top level. Clean and smooth footwork and pedal. Elite click and close ability. Sticky in man coverage. Possesses Ball hawking skills. High IQ and instinctive.

Weaknesses- Farley has been struck by the injury bug too often. 2017 suffered an ACL year, and in 2019 he missed 2 games with back spasms which head coach Justin Fuente said bothered him all season. Consistency in squeezing routes in zone schemes could use alittle work but that can be fixed.

Overall- Farley’s potential is sky high. Possesses the mix of aggression, size, and ball skills you want in a cornerback. Though still very green at the position, he’s shockingly very polished for someone who has really only been playing the position for alittle over a year and a half. A truly instinctive player who has fluid movement. If Farley can stay healthy and is selected by a team with a stout defensive coordinator and foundation, he could have a lengthy and successful NFL career.

Pro Comparison- Jimmy Smith
