Eagles Surprise Rodney McLeod As A Walter Payton Award Nominee In A Cool Way

10 December 2020 NFL News & Updates Philadelphia Eagles

Rodney McLeod is the epitome of someone who should be a Walter Payton Award Nominee. Since McLeod joined the Eagles in 2016, he’s been in the community looking for ways to help better Philadelphia neighborhoods and find more ways to give back.

For example, McLeod is an ambassador for the Americn Assoication for Cancer Research (AACR) and he created a fundraiser called “Race for 23k for Cancer Research). It is a fundraiser to support lifesaving cancer research at the AACR. For every interception, forced fumble, sack, or tackle for a loss this season, McLeod will donate $1,000 to the AACR Foundation in support of pancreatic cancer research, with the goal of raising $23,000.

Another example of his charitable work includes the “Change The Future Foundation”. Rodney McLeod and his wife Erika partnered up with local NPR station WHYY to help improve local communities and youth education. The new initiative through the Change For The Future Foundation is called “Game Changers” which helps enlist local athletes, coaches, and influencers to support long-term sustainable resources for elementary through higher education learning. McLeod is also often seen dropping off and providing food to local neighborhoods through the foundation.

These are just two of many examples of why Rodney McLeod is more than deserving of the Walter Payton Award. I am glad to see something positive come from this dreadful season.
