Breaking: Eagles name Jalen Hurts starting QB

8 December 2020 Uncategorized

The Philadelphia Eagles are making a quarterback change heading into their weekend clash versus the New Orleans Saints.

After his brief appearance versus the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles saw enough to start Jalen Hurts this Sunday. He came into the game; made some plays and made some really nice throws.

He finished the game with 112 passing yards, 29 rushing yards with one touchdown and one interception. The one thing that was clear was, he looked a lot more comfortable than Carson Wentz has this season.

Now, to that point, it’s clear Wentz hasn’t been the same this season. He doesn’t look comfortable, he looks scared to make a mistake; he’s just not mentally right right now. The Eagles offensively have struggled and with Hurts last week, they seemed like they were making progress and that’s where Hurts comes into play.

Here’s what Doug Pederson said regarding the decision to play Hurts.

“I have come to a decision and I am going to go with Jalen Hurts this week against New Orleans. I looked at the whole thing and decided that for this week to look for that spark again to try to get the team over the hump.”

It’s not going to be easy playing the leagues number one rated defense. But, with Hurts, the offense is a little more dynamic. At the very least, we know it can’t be worse than the offense was.

What’s going to be interesting is, if he does really well, what happens next season? There’s a lot of money tied into Wentz, he’d be the most expensive backup ever. The Eagles definitely have a big franchise moment on their hands. They just want to get a win right now; but down the line this is going to have a huge impact on the future.
