Eagles CB Nickell Robey-Coleman is going to have a big impact for Eagles in 2020

Every offseason teams bring in players and they’re meant to have an immediate big impact. For the Philadelphia Eagles, that player is going to be cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman.
We all know the struggles the Eagles have had with their secondary. Some partly because availability, but mostly, the play just hasn’t been up to par.
Robey-Coleman posted an astonishing just 0.63 yards per slot coverage snap through week 17, ranking him sixth amongst slot cornerbacks. Opposing quarterbacks had just an 80.1 passer rating when targeting Robey-Coleman.
Adding that caliber to the Eagles secondary is huge. Last season, the Eagles ranked 14th in pass defense, and, they did not lose anyone really besides Ronald Darby, but gained not just Robey-Coleman, but Darius Slay.
The addition of Robey-Coleman will be a massive one for the defense.
Here’s what NFL analyst Solomon Wilcots wrote about Robey-Coleman in terms of what Eagles fans can expect from him.
“Nickell Robey-Coleman continues to solidify himself as one of the league’s best slot cornerbacks. He accelerates with quick closing speed after showing patience in press man-to-man coverage, and he is good enough to stick with receivers at the top of their routes.”
In a team that plays nickel or dime defense 73% of the time, having an elite slot cornerback is a big need. Last season, the Eagles used a combination of Avonte Maddox, Cre’Von LeBlanc and even Malcolm Jenkins in the slot. This year, we can expect LeBlanc to get some work, however, with Robey-Coleman at the helm, things are going to be different this year.
The slot wide receiver has been a big thing in the NFL lately. Teams use that position to their advantage and if you can’t match it, they’ll expose you. That’s a big reason why Jenkins had to play there last season. Not only does Robey-Coleman give the Eagles great play there, he gives them the ease of mind.
When it’s all said and done, adding Robey-Coleman might just be the best move the Eagles did the offseason. He’s definitely going to make a big impact.
