With Miles Sanders the lead guy, what could Corey Clements role look like?

17 August 2020 Uncategorized

While Miles Sanders might just be the lead guy for the Philadelphia Eagles, do not forget about running back Corey Clement.

Flashback to 2017, Clement was an UDFA running back looking to make his name in the league. He finished the season with 324 yards, four rushing touchdowns and 123 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Most notably, his stellar three touchdowns game versus the Denver Broncos and his great Super Bowl performance made it a season to remember.

The next year, Clement started right where he left off and was a spark plug for the Eagles. He ended up ending his season injured and last year was the same story. Now, he’s back and healthy and ready to re-emerge as a focal part of the offense.

With the Eagles already saying they want Sanders to be their lead guy this season, what’s it mean for Clement? It means that he’ll once again by the fall guy, the one who comes in and offers the offense something different. His quick burst and combination of speed and strength make him a very tough tackle. He might be small, but he’ll run you over or throw a mean stiff arm.

He’s not going to be a real threat to Sanders workload, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to not have his own workload. A great thing about him and all the running backs is their do it all mentality. He can run block and catch. The Eagles are going to find a way to use that to their advantage.

People tend to get carried away with statistics and Clement might not rack up a ton of yards this season. But; he’s going to be there when it matters most and he’ll make the plays. Recent history proves that. With him behind Sanders and Boston Scott, the Eagles have an extremely diverse group and one with a ton of play making ability.
