When we look at the Eagles WRs, don’t forget about rookie Quez Watkins

When talking about the a Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver picture, one name we’re forgetting is Quez Watkins.

Watkins was the Eagles sixth round pick this season and they took him for one reason, he can fly. He ran the second fastest forty at the combine and when you watch him, that speed is very noticeable.

Last season, Watkins 64 passes for 1,178 yards (18.4 YPC) and six touchdowns. He was a standout wide receiver for the Golden Eagles.

An early entrant, Watkins fell down the board due to the deep wide receiver class. However, much to the Eagles liking, it was the perfect scenario for them, there’s a multitude of ways Watkins can impact the Eagles team.

For one, as a wide receiver, his speed kills. He’s not going to start right away, but on the outside it’s obvious what he can do. The Eagles can get creative with him and use him in the slot. There he’ll have a big mismatch with his speed.

Another aspect of Watkins’ game is his kick/punt returning. If he finds success doing that, that’s an easy roster spot for him. We know Jalen Reagor can also do the same, but if the Eagles can keep Reagor off those, I’m sure they would.

One player Watkins compares to is DeSean Jackson and DJax has been his role model his entire life.

“Oh, man. DeSean has really been one of my role models as a receiver as speed guy, kind of a similar body style,” Watkins said. “Really just ready to start learning and getting a lot of stuff, getting a lot of knowledge from him.”

Now, Watkins gets to learn every aspect of the game from Jackson. This could potentially be a perfect scenario for the Eagles. Watkins is definitely going to be one of those players everyone looks back on and wonders, “ why did he fall.” And when that happens, the Eagles will just be laughing.
