What to watch for: Eagles vs. Giants

29 December 2019 Uncategorized

It’s time to put up or shut up. The Philadelphia Eagles are playing for the NFC East and a playoff spot against a New York Giants team ready to play spoiler.

For the Eagles, they’re going to be limited offensively, however, they’re playing well rounded football. In today’s game, here’s three things to watch for.

1. Dallas Goedert steps up in Zach Ertz’s absence

Dallas Goedert will now assume duties as the Eagles number one tight end with Zach Ertz out for the year. Last week, he did just that, catching nine passes for 91 yards and one touchdown. Today, he’ll go against a team that hasn’t had that much success defending tight ends this season. In a rainy Metlife Stadium, the Eagles need him to have another big game.

2. The run game must lead the way

Like forth noted, it’s going to be great running weather. The Eagles have been running the ball very effectively as of late. And, today they get to add Jordan Howard back into the mix. The Eagles are running for around 121 yards per game and rookie running back Miles Sanders has been having a field day as of late. Behind their offensive line, the Eagles run game can dominate the game.

3. Shut down Saquon Barkley

Last week against the Washington Redskins, Saquon Barkley ran for 189 yards, he broke a 67 yard touchdown. However, last time he matched up against the Eagles defense, he managed just 66 yards on 17 carries. The Eagles defensive line dominated the Dallas Cowboys offensive line last week. They need to do the same this week and dominate the Giants in order to eliminate Barkley.

The Eagles need to win this game in order to make the playoffs. It’s an important one and if the Eagles play the game the way they can, they should win. However, every game in the NFL is different, so it’s important they take it one play at a time and get the job done.
