Breakout player to watch: How TE Dallas Goedert can impact today’s game

29 December 2019 Uncategorized

All year and for the last three years, the Eagles have had the same motto, next man up. And today, it’s even more evident.

The Philadelphia Eagles already have a depleted offense in terms of weapons for quarterback Carson Wentz. Now, against the New York Giants, Wentz will be without his favorite target, Zach Ertz. Making this one of the biggest games for tight end Dallas Goedert.

Goedert did in fact step up in a big way for the Eagles last week catching nine passes for 91 yards and one touchdown. Although he hasn’t been the main tight end target for the Eagles this season, his still top ten in terms of production.

This season, Goedert has racked up 542 yards and five touchdowns on 54 receptions. He has all the tools to be an elite pass catcher in this league and today, he’ll be the go to target for Wentz. For him, it’s time to prove himself as that guy for the Eagles.

It’s a rainy day, hopefully the receiving isn’t the dominate statistic of the day, the game should be won on the ground. But, when it comes time to throw, Goedert needs to be Mr. Reliable himself. It’s a big game in a big time situation. If the Eagles get a big game from Goedert, they should be in a position to win.

Wentz is going to need that option to go to in the big moment. Goedert showed he’s capable last week. It’s another chance for him to do so this week. For the Eagles playoff chances, let’s hope he does.
