The Eagles needed someone to step up and WR Greg Ward Jr. did so in a big way

Every team has a player who comes out of nowhere and produces for the team. For the 2019 Philadelphia Eagles, that player is wide receiver Greg Ward Jr.

Today, versus the Washington Redskins in a must win game, Ward Jr. delivered. On the day he caught seven passes for 61 yards and one touchdown.

His touchdown of course came with under 30 seconds left in the game. That touchdown went on to be the winner for the Eagles even though afterwards Nigel Bradham returned a fumble for a touchdown. His touchdown in the back of the end zone capped off a drive which saw him go 4/4 for 40 yards.

Who’s going to step up? That’s been the question asked by Eagles fans all week.

Ward Jr. was the man who answered those questions. He’s a journeyman, from college quarterback to training camp cut. It’s been a long ride just to get to this moment.

It’s great to see a player like him breakthrough. It’s not just a fluke either, last week against the New York Giants, he caught four passes for 34 yards. He was sure handed and came up clutch in the end for the team. His fight, passion and willingness to put himself on the line to make a player is what makes him successful.

Like Jason Kelce said, “hungry dogs run faster,” and Ward Jr. is a hungry dog. Having him at wide receiver and playing this well has been a big boost for the Eagles offense. He’s practically become the Eagles most reliable wide receiver.

The Eagles are going to need him to produce next week versus the Dallas Cowboys. The division will come down to who wins that one and Ward Jr. could have a say in that.
