CB Ryan Lewis promoted to the active roster; Waived/Injured TE Alex Ellis

4 October 2019 Uncategorized

According to Mike Kaye of NJ.com, the Eagles have brought up CB Ryan Lewis from the practice squad. In a corresponding move, they waived/injured TE Alex Ellis.

The move comes as no surprise, as it was just reported that Sidney Jones is questionable for Sunday. As expected, Maddox and Darby are out for that game. That left us with three healthy cornerbacks (Douglas, James, Scandrick).

Lewis was signed to the practoce squad this week, as well as CB D.J. White, after a slew of injuries at the cornerback position. He has some NFL experience, playing in ten games and starting in 3 of them. He was undrafted in 2017 out of Pittsburgh, where he was teammates with CB Avonte Maddox.

Ellis was listed as out for Sunday and someone was going to have to take the risk of being put on the waiver wire this week. So, this isn’t a surprising move. If he clears waivers, I imagine the Eagles will try to bring him back to either the practice squad or the acitve roster.

This leads me to believe that the Eagles found the CB position more important than the TEs, for this game.

This leaves us with two tight ends for Sunday (Ertz, Ellis). Unless, Josh Perkins is brought up, at the expense of someone else on the active roster. It will come down to how things go in the next 24 hours and what the Eagles game plan is but I wouldn’t rule out more moves being made.
