Eagles sign CB Ryan Lewis to the Practice Squad

1 October 2019 Uncategorized

According to Mike Kaye of NJ.com, the Eagles have signed CB Ryan Lewis to the practice squad. In a corresponding move the Eagles have released CB Ajene Harris.

Lewis spent the first three games of this season playing for the Colts before being waived last week. He has three tackles so far this year. The previous season was spent with the Buffalo Bills where he played in seven games, three being starts. His first two seasons were spent trying to find his way on to the Patriots and Cardinals practice squads. Lewis was an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh when he got the call from the Cardinals in 2017. In his career he has a total of 18 tackles, three pass deflections and two forced fumbles.

Lewis hails from Lancaster, PA and as mentioned, a graduate of Pittsburgh where he was a teammate of Eagles CB Avonte Maddox.

Ajene Harris was undrafted out of USC and spent time with the Eagles this offseason before going on and off the practice squad. Once again he is off but being replaced by another cornerback. The consensus is that the lack of experience is why Harris has been let go.

With the swap the Eagles still have two cornerbacks on their practice squad (Lewis, White) and only three healthy on the active roster (Douglas, James, Scandrick). Sidney Jones is still day-to-day and hasn’t been ruled out yet.

It will be very intriguing to see if Doug brings one or both of the practice squad members up to the active roster and if so, who would they replace… We are last in the league in passing yards allowed per game and with the way our corners have been dropping we can use all the bodies we can get.
