On the road to victory: Here’s how the Eagles win vs. Falcons

15 September 2019 Uncategorized

The Philadelphia Eagles are in Atlanta this Sunday night to take on the Falcons. Coming off of a loss, the Falcons are going to want to steal a win from the Eagles at their own home stadium. The Eagles are coming off a second half of football versus the Washington Redskins where they looked very good. That momentum needs to carry over in Atlanta if they’re to win and here’s why.

In the second half versus the Redskins not only did the offense click, the defense shut it down. That’s the standard the Eagles need to play to. If they get that level on intensity, they’re going to be a hard team to beat. This is their first road test of the season so it’s going to be important to start fast. A slow start will keep the Falcons atmosphere in the game and that’ll keep fueling the Falcons.

Offensively, the Eagles need to get the ball to their weapons. Running the football wasn’t a big theme last week for the Eagles, establishing it early will be huge for the Eagles. Getting Jordan Howard and rookie Miles Sanders going is almost a necessity. Controlling the line of scrimmage is a usual theme from the Eagles offensive line and behind them, the run game can flourish. We saw some very positive signs from the run game last week, but playing from behind, the Eagles elected to pass more often.

Quarterback Carson Wentz has a plethora of weapons to spread the ball around to. DeSean Jackson had a huge game last week as well as Alshon Jeffery. Tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert had their moments but need to be used more frequently. As well as slot wide receiver Nelson Agholor.

In terms of defense, it’s about limiting the big plays. Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley are big playmakers and need to be contained. It’s easier said than done but it’s starts with the front seven. Getting pressure like they did in the second half versus the Redskins will ensure that. Whether it’s Derek Barnett, Brandon Graham or Fletcher Cox, all three of them can change the game, and the Eagles will need that effort from them today.

When it’s all said and done, the Eagles will go on the road and win a big road game early on in the season. Their high powered offense behind their feisty front four will help them to victory.
