Three Things to Know: Eagles Training Camp Day 5

30 July 2019 Uncategorized

The Philadelphia Eagles are really enduring a great training camp. Everything is going great and a lot of the players who are fighting for a roster spot are shining. And that’s what happened today. Here’s what you need to know following today’s practice.

  1. Timmy Jernigan is looking really strong

The Eagles released Jernigan at the end of the year because he was suppose to make more than $10 million. However, they brought him back on a one year deal and his spot isn’t guaranteed as the Eagles brought in Malik Jackson. But, today, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz spoke to the media and he talked about how excited he is for Jernigan, saying,  “is as good or even better than he’s been since joining the Eagles, better in the scheme.”

Coming back as a depth player at defensive tackle could help Jernigan stay healthy and at his best. Rotating him he ensures the Eagles they’ll never lose intensity at defensive tackle.

              2. Joe Ostman shines

The defensive end put on a clinic this practice. Ostman has three sacks and a forced fumble today, constantly getting the edge. It’s a pleasant surprise for the Eagles as having another productive defensive end to their rotation will keep everyone more fresh. Losing both Michael Bennett and Chris Long hurt their rotation, but Ostman might just be able to slide in quite nicely.

              3. JJ showing potential

Rookie wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside has a ton of upside and that upside was on display today. JJ scored an 80 yard touchdown which got a huge reaction from the offense. His presence in the red zone and this offense could be a killer for the Eagles.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the Eagles use him this season, but regardless, he’ll produce when called upon.
