Eagles excercise Carson Wentz’s fifth-year option

29 April 2019 Uncategorized

On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles announced they‘ve exercised the fifth-year option on Wentz’s contract for 2020.

Wentz’s current cap hit will be $8.5 million for 2019, however, looking into the future his cap hit will be $22.783,000 for 2020.

It’s no surprise as we all know that the Eagles have “long term” in mind with Carson Wentz, but at least on paper he’s locked up until next season. The big contract negotiations with Wentz are inevitable, but don’t be surprised to see a new deal either this season or the Birds could wait till the end of the year. The sooner they get it done, the cheaper it could be for the team, but either way it’s going to be a monster deal for the franchise quarterback.

In terms of Howie Roseman bracing for the impact of Wentz’s new deal, he’ll have to be ready to do his best work as of yet. Managing the cap after Wentz gets a big deal will put Howie’s GM chops to the test to stay competitive in 2020.
