Roster Move: Eagles bring back CB Ronald Darby on a one-year deal

15 March 2019 Uncategorized

The Eagles are brining back cornerback Ronald Darby.

Just announced, the Eagles are signing Darby to a one year deal. Still recovering from his season ending injury, Darby’s availability for week one is up in the air. However, he’s still their best cornerback and they’ll be happy to get him back.

The deal is worth just $8.5 million which a lot of sense for both sides. For Darby, he’s coming back from an injury and likely wasn’t getting a real big offer elsewhere. So, he’s betting on himself to recover and get a big deal. For the Eagles, they’re paying very minimal for a number one cornerback for a year. There’s no say if they’ll be able to keep him next season but for one year, that’s a good deal for them.

But, there’s somethings that say, these two want to stay with each other. A couple of days ago, Darby spoke in an interview about his impending free agency and desire to stay in Philadelphia. He had this to say in the interview.

“My mindset right now is continue to work, continue to rehab. We’re just preparing for Week 1. And just see how everything plays out. I’m just playing everything by ear. You know, the Eagles really want me to stay where I’m at. So me and my agent, we’re just playing everything out.”

The feeling was mutual and both parities wanted to continue to be together. It’s huge for the Eagles knowing they still have their number one cornerback. As the draft looms near, the need for a cornerback is not there, especially early on.

With Darby, the Eagles have a legit starting cornerback to pair with Avonte Maddox, Jalen Mills, Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones and whoever else they bring on. Those are four very good options. Hopefully, Cre’Von LeBlanc is back as well. The narrative keeps being the Eagles secondary is bad, but it’s not true. They’ve had injury problems and that’s why securing good depth is great for them. Bringing back Darby is the right move.
