Eagles will not pick up DT Tim Jernigan’s contract option making him a free agent

4 March 2019 Uncategorized

The move that was rumored to be happening has reportedly happened. The Eagles will not be picking up defensive tackle Tim Jernigan’s $13 million contract option, making him a free agent.

This move saves the Eagles $7 million in cap and although Jernigan is a great player, this move had to happen and here’s why.

Jernigan just isn’t worth the $13 million he was due. He’s a very good run stuffer and a great compliment to defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. However, in a money tight situation, it had to happen especially with this “historic” defensive line draft class.

The Eagles have their work cut out for them, but with this draft class loaded with talent at defensive tackle, they’ll have no trouble drafting a player to fill that role. Will he be as good as Jernigan? You hope so, but the Eagles will take their chances and find out.
