Eagles News: A flurry of roster moves go down as the Eagles resign K Jake Elliott, LS Rick Lovato and release S Chris Maragos

22 February 2019 Uncategorized

It has been slow regarding Eagles news as of late, but today, the Eagles finally gave us some news to break down.

The big one, the Eagles have released safety Chris Maragos who has been injured for the better course of a year and a half. We do not really know the full story surrounding his injury, but we know he has had setbacks in his recovery. By releasing him, the Eagles save $2 million.

It is possible that his career is over. Below is the Eagles statement.

With the Eagles, Maragos became one of the premier special teams’ players in the NFL. But, much more than that, he was a great teammate and a great player to have in the locker room. He was the captain of the special teams’ for a reason, I am sure his presence will be missed.

The other news the Eagles released today was that they have resigned kicker Jake Elliott and long snapper Rick Lovato to one-year deals. They both will be back next season for the Eagles.

If it is not broke, do not fix it. Lovato has been a quality long snapper since replacing Jon Dorenbos, he has rightfully earned his spot. Elliott has had his ups and downs but has been the most clutch kicker we have seen in a while for the Eagles. He has hit a couple of game winners and nailed a huge kick in the Super Bowl last season. If the Eagles were not to cap tied, these two might have been able to receive longer deals, but for now, they are secured another season.
