Reaction: Eagles season comes to an end after they fall to Saints 20-14

13 January 2019 Uncategorized

The end to what seemed like to be the start of a magical run is over. The Eagles have fallen to the New Orleans Saints 20-14, ending their season.

After a quick start, putting the Eagles up 14-0 early, the momentum of the game shifted, edging towards the Saints. Nick Foles capitalized off of a great Cre’Von LeBlanc interception on Saints quarterback Drew Brees’s first throw. Foles threw a dime to wide receiver Jordan Matthews. Foles added a one yard rushing touchdown on the Eagles’ next drive, giving them that 14 point lead.

It was all Saints after that, as they scored 20 unanswered points. Brees started to hit his groove and tore the Eagles a part. Brees threw for 301 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. What really hurt the Eagles was the fact they had no answer for wide receiver Michael Thomas, who had 12 receptions for 171 yards and one touchdown.

In the end, the Eagles were out-gained 250 to 420 and just couldn’t sustain any drives in the second half. On the other side of things, the Saints controlled the ball and ran the Eagles defense into the ground. The Eagles just could not stop the Saints, especially on third down. The Saints were 8 of 15 on third down and 2-2 on fourth down.

The Eagles had their chances to make the plays that would give themselves a chance in this game, but just could not get it done today. To end the game, a very unfortunate drop by Alshon Jeffery. Even though the game was out of hand all game, the Eagles had the chance to at least take the lead with little time left. But, we cannot just dwell on that.

Whoever leaves this team, it’s been a pleasure to call you an Eagle. For some, you’ve immortalized yourself as an Eagle forever. The business side of this sport can be cruel, but let’s not let that get in the way of the legendary status you’ve been able to get playing here. It’s been a great journey these last two years and that’s journey is not expected to be over anytime soon.

The season is now over and it’s time to move on. Things are going to change in this organization and people are going to leave. With that being said, it’s been a fun ride. This season was a lot different than the previous one, but it was one fun ride. The future is bright and there’s going to be rough games like this. But, playoff football will be a regular thing for this team for years to come.
