Matchups to watch as the Eagles gear up to take on the Cowboys

9 December 2018 Uncategorized

It’s a very big game today for the  Philadelphia Eagles as they take on the Dallas Cowboys. A win today for the Eagles will put them in the drivers seat in the NFC East as they would give themselves a 47% chance of winning the division.

Make no mistake about it, the Eagles have to perform and with that being said, here’s the matchups to watch in this game. These matchups will have a big say on the winner of today’s fixture.

  1. Eagles O line vs. Cowboys D line

The Cowboys defensive line did a great job last week getting pressure. This led New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees to force the ball out early, making him very inaccurate. The Eagles must be able to give Carson Wentz take in the pocket. The last two weeks, they’ve been able to keep him upright and as a result, they’ve done well. Against a line like the Cowboys, the Eagles must be on their “A” game.

  1. Alshon Jeffery vs. Byron Jones

Last time these two matched up, Jeffery caught four passes for 48 yards. He was effective, but wasn’t targeted nearly enough. Tight end Zach Ertz dominated the Cowboys, leaving everyone to think he’ll draw a lot more attention today. With that being said, the Eagles need another wide receiver to step up and Jeffery is the likely candidate. It’ll be an interesting matchup to watch.

  1. Eagles DTs versus Cowboys

Without Tim Jernigan, the Eagles will likely mix it up in the middle next to Fletcher Cox. This is important because running at them all game will be Ezekiel Elliott. The Eagles need to contain him and it’ll be important he cannot pick up easy yards in the middle of the field.

These three matchups will have a massive say on the impact of today’s game. If they go in the Eagles favor, they should fly high in victory. It’s a big game for them and they need to win.
