Game Recap: Eagles completely outmatched and outclassed by Saints, lose 48-7

18 November 2018 Uncategorized

The Eagles were simply outclassed by the New Orleans Saints, losing 48-7. This is the biggest loss by a defending Super Bowl Champion.

All around, the Eagles were demolished. The Saints out-gained the Eagles 546 – 196. Saints quarterback Drew Brees put on a clinic, completing 22 of 30 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns. The two punch attack of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara proved to be too much for the Eagles as the combined for 211 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Saints wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith caught a game high 10 receptions for 157 yards and one touchdown. Michael Thomas continued his great season catching four balls for 92 yards and one score.

As for the Eagles, Carson Wentz had probably his worst game of his career, throwing for just 156 yards and three interceptions. His decision making was poor and it showed. Running the ball seemed to be okay as Josh Adams broke off a 28 yard touchdowns and totaled 53 yards on seven carries. Falling behind forced the Eagles to abandon the run. Golden Tate led the Eagles in receiving with five receptions for 48 yards.

Defensively, what’s been building up all season burst today. Secondary issues were glaring and the Saints made sure they picked the Eagles a part. The Eagles defense gave up 173 rushing yards, 373 passing yards and had zero sacks. A very poor performance by them.

When it’s all said and done, the Eagles looked finished from the start. Frustration was mounting and players were dropping like flies. The 2017-2018 mojo is completely gone and it’s time to stop pretending this team can get back to that level this season. Falling to 4-6, the Eagles are just two games back in the division, but the way they’re playing, things don’t look promising.
