It wasn’t pretty, but the Eagles are 2-1 and Carson Wentz is BACK

The road to repeat got a big boost today as Carson Wentz led the Philadephia Eagles to victory over the Indianapolis Colts, 20-16. With the win, the Eagles move to 2-1 on the season.

The Eagles started off the game hot, marching down the field and ultimately ending the drive with a Dallas Goedert touchdown from Wentz. The Colts answered with a touchdown pass from Andrew Luck to Ryan Grant. For the most of the game’s duration, both teams traded field goals until Eagles running back Wendell Smallwood scored the game’s winning touchdown on a four-yard rushing touchdown. Smallwood had a big day for the Eagles, rushing for 56 yards and a touchdown as well as adding an extra 35 receiving yards to his total.

The Eagles’ defense as a whole was fantastic today. In total, the defense allowed just 209 yards and only 68 rushing yards. And, the Colts got almost half their rushing yards on a Luck scramble and the Colts added about 40 yards in garbage time trying to set up a hail mary. Yet again, the Eagles held their own and stopped the Colts when they were knocking on the door late in the game. Backed up on their four-yard line, the Eagles defense stood tall and locked up the game.

The real winner today was Wentz. After missing nine months, questions were asked about his “new” style of play. However, if it were ever in doubt, Wentz was sure to show everyone he’s the same magician he was before his injury. He showed us exactly what we needed to see and he’s only going to get better. He did miss a few throws, but he was sharp and was composed and made a few improvised plays. Having him at the helm is such a big boost for the Eagles.

When it’s all said and done, the Eagles moved to 2-1 after the win. The Eagles showed us they can still conquer adversity and they just flat out know how to win. Let’s be honest, it was not the best game for the Eagles, they gave up a few turnovers, they had bad penalty calls and yet, they still won. Winning these type of games shows us what they’re made of. The Eagles know how to win and through all the struggles, that’s what happened today. Now next week the Eagles move on to Tennessee to take on the Titans who are coming off of a big win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
