Why the Eagles will lean on Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert this Thursday vs. Falcons

With Alshon Jeffery and Mack Hollins out Thursday versus the Atlanta Falcons, who’s going to step up for the Eagles.
Going into the game, the Eagles are very limited at wide receiver. They’ll have Nelson Agholor, Mike Wallace, Shelton Gibson, DeAndre Carter, and Markus Wheaton. They’re missing their main man in Jeffery and change up guy in Hollins.
The Eagles are likely to rely a lot on Wallace to stretch the field as well as Gibson. Wallace still has a lot left in the tank and will be eager to show the fan base just why he signed to Philadelphia. For Gibson, it’s his chance to continue to build on his stellar preseason, which saw him produce not just a lot of yards, but a few touchdowns.
However, there’s two animals waiting to be unleashed who haven’t been mentioned yet. The tight end duo of Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert is likely to carry the load this Thursday. Both are going to get a lot of looks and in the red zone, have fun trying to match them up. All offseason, the idea of this duo has had people excited, now this Thursday we’ll see it in full force.
For the Eagles, their game plan will likely have a lot of run pass option plays which allows quarterback Nick Foles to make the quick read to the slot receiver or tight end. We saw this a lot in the playoffs last season. By going with this model, the Eagles are playing to their strengths and putting all the cards in their hands.
Having two very talented tight ends will certainly help the Eagles cause. Both Ertz and Goedert are boarderline uncoverable. Leaning on them makes sense in a multitude of ways. They cause a lot of problems for opposing defenses and are going to cause havoc this Thursday night.
