Five players who have a lot at stack tonight vs. Browns
23 August 2018 Eagles News
The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Cleveland Browns tonight in a game which will be the final dress rehearsal for the starters. It’s an important game because there’s still roster spots in in the air. In this game, here are the five players to watch.
- Shelton Gibson
Gibson has been lighting it up this preseason and is likely on the verge of sealing his spot on the 53-man roster. He’s been electric on both offense and special teams. Tonight he’s likely to continue the trend and have another stellar performance.
- Josh Adams
The running back roster spot is there for the taking for Adams. In a game where the Eagles are expected to sit a lot of running backs, Adams enters the picture and will likely see a lot of carries. Will he seize the moment? Unlike Wendell Smallwood last week, Adams needs to set the tone and show the Eagles why he’s worth keeping.
- Big V
He had a great run of form in the playoffs last season for the Eagles, but he was abysmal last week versus the Patriots. Although his spot on the roster doesn’t seem in jeopardy, the Eagles need to see a stronger performance out of him. The left tackle spot is crucial to the success for the team and although Jason Peters is back, the Eagles need to be confident Big V is the future in the position.
- Sidney Jones
Another roster battle undecided is the slot cornerback battle. Jones has the upper hand, but struggled last week. Tonight it’s his opportunity to get back to where he left off the week before and finally claim his spot in the slot. It might just be a preseason game, but tonight’s a big day for Jones.
- Steven Means
He’s yet to get a substantial amount of playing time and being 28 years old, his days on the roster could be numbered if the Eagles don’t think he’s as valuable as a younger defensive end like Josh Sweat. He needs to show the team he’s worth keeping around for the time being.
