Three things to know following today’s session: Its Dallas Goedert SZN and the slot cornerback battle heats up

1 August 2018 Eagles News

Another day and another training camp session is in the books. Here’s three things you need to know following today’s practice.

Today was the team’s sixth session and injuries are starting to kick in. Eagles wide receiver Shelton Gibson is in the NFL’s concussion protocol. The rest of the team is pretty healthy with a few players with minor knocks. There’s nothing really major wrong with the team as of now. As for the other notes, here they are.

1. Dallas Goedert is legit

When the Eagles drafted Goedert in the second round, everyone knew he was going to be a problem, especially with Zach Ertz being the first tight end already. However, so far in camp, Goedert has been as good as everyone thought he’d be and more.

Adding him to the Eagles red zone attack is going to be lethal going forward.

2. A slot cornerback has emerged

Through the team’s six session so far Sidney Jones has been in the slot for three session and DeVante Bausby has emerged and has taken those reps the other three sessions.

Bausby was an undrafted free agent who’s bounced around the league, but he’s been able to find a home in Philadelphia. Familiar with the defensive scheme, Bausby has impressed and is giving Jones a run for his money.

3. Tre Sullivan season

The Eagles third safety role is practically a starting role and with the loss of Corey Graham, the Eagles need someone to step up. So far this camp, Tre Sullivan has been that man.

Sullivan has been taking those reps and like Bausby, he’s familiar with the scheme and has been able to be a very good fit in it. His skill set brings a lot to the table and he’s looking to run away with this job.

The Eagles’ first preseason game is right around the corner and September 6th is right around the corner. As the season nears, make sure to keep an eye on the third safety and slot cornerback battle. The two front runners are becoming clear, but it’s vital whoever starts needs to play at a high level.
