Roster Move: Eagles release LB Mychal Kendricks

22 May 2018 Eagles News

After speculating for the last couple of seasons, the Eagles are actually releasing linebacker Mychal Kendricks.

Kendricks has always been a solid contributor on the team, but the question with him was, is he worth the money? He had a cap hit of $7.6 million this season and the Eagles just did not want to pay him anymore.

In his time in Philadelphia, Kendricks racked up 458 tackles, 14 sacks, and 3 interceptions. He had a tendency of missing time due to injury, but he played well in the Eagles run to the Super Bowl. Scheme fit was always a concern and the Eagles are looking elsewhere on the roster to fit weakside linebacker.

Newly signed linebacker Corey Nelson is the frontrunner for the job as of now. In the first OTA today, Nelson is the one who took the starting rep. Still, there are a lot of things that are going to play out, but it is safe to say, going forward, the Eagles linebackers are a position to watch.
