Report: Eagles bring in a familiar face for a workout

16 May 2018 Eagles News

With Timmy Jernigan out for the impending future, the Eagles are exploring their options in the defensive tackle market.

With that being said, according to Geoff Mosher, 97.5 the Fanatic host and writer for theScore,  the Eagles have recently brought in defensive tackle Cedric Thornton for a workout. Thornton was on the Eagles for five seasons and he spent the last couple of season with the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills.

Thronton thrived with the Eagles but in their 3-4 scheme. Although he’s more suited for that role, bringing in a player familiar with the team and building might just be a move the Eagles want to make. He’s an excellent run stopper, which the Eagles lose with Jernigan on the fence for the beginning of the season.

After leaving the Eagles, Thornton has not seen the field too many times. Maybe, just maybe, a move back to the Eagles could help rejuvenate his career. He’d be the perfect partner inside for Fletcher Cox and a great teammate to add back into the locker room. Plus, having Thornton allows Jernigan to really take his time and heel because Thornton will do a fine job as his replacement.

The Eagles are really exploring all options at defensive tackle which could mean Jernigan’s surgery and injury are a little more severe than first thought. Either way, the Eagles need someone else on the roster before the season to help with the defensive line rotation. I’d imagine the Eagles still would like to see Destiny Vaeeo and Elijah Qualls get a fair shot at the job first. But, having extra depth will not do the Eagles any harm, especially going into training camp.
