Mock draft roundup: Notre Dame OT Mike McGlinchey falls to the Eagles in Bucky Brooks final mock draft

26 April 2018 DRAFT Eagles News

You can never have too many offensive linemen. That’s the case the Eagles take in NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks’ final mock draft.

In his mock draft, Brooks has the Eagles taking Notre Dame offensive tackle, Mike McGlinchey. His reasoning,  “The Eagles have the luxury of taking the best player available at the bottom of the first round. McGlinchey is a rock-solid edge blocker with experience playing left and right tackle.” (Via NFL.com)

With all the rumors swirling of a potential trade down, if McGlinchey falls to the Eagles, it is a pick the Eagles cannot pass up. A native of Philadelphia, McGlinchey could be the predecessor to Jason Peters. But, even more possible, the Eagles take him and groom him for the next couple of years, after all, having the luxury of having a first-round offensive tackle as a backup will eventually show its value.

“McGlinchey will need to add more strength and mass to his athletic frame in order to hold up against NFL power, but his technique and instincts are pro-ready. He could be a polarizing prospect based on inconsistencies from his tape, but he gets guys blocked at a much higher rate than he loses his rep. McGlinchey should become an early starter at either tackle position, but his ability to handle bull rushers and power at the point of attack will define the type of career he has.” (Via NFL.com)

Right now, the Eagles are in the position to take the best player on their board at their pick. Trading down will allow them to gain extra capital. But, the option of taking McGlinchey at that pick probably next crossed their mind. On draft day, if he falls, I can see them jumping on that pick.
