Eagles mock draft roundup: Eagles land OT Mike McGlinchey in Bucky Brook’s latest mock draft

12 April 2018 DRAFT Eagles News

In NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks’ latest mock draft 4.0 he has the Eagles selecting Notre Dame OT Mike McGlinchey with the no. 32 pick.

The Eagles have the luxury of taking the best player available at the bottom of the first round. McGlinchey is a rock-solid edge blocker with experience playing left and right tackle.

It’s interesting when you look at Brooks’ mock having only two offensive tackles going in the first round, as his only other tackle prospect is UCLA’s Kolton Miller going to the Patriots at No. 23. Most folks in the draft community have Texas Connor Williams going in the first round mocks, but Brooks does have Georgia’s Isaiah Wynn going at No.30, but he’s seen more as a guard in the NFL.

The Philadelphia native and cousin of Matt Ryan has been ranked all over the board amongst draft analysts and has been mocked anywhere from the top 10 to the bottom of the first round. When it comes down to it, teams are in desperate need of tackles and teams are willing to take a gamble on tackle prospects as there aren’t too many quality guys on the streets.

Looking at McGlinchey’s career at Notre Dame, the two-time captain has an impressive 39 starts(25 at LT and 14 at RT) on his career resume. When Ronnie Stanley left for the NFL, McGlinchey took over the left tackle position and never looked back. However, while the Notre Dame prospect is known for his outstanding strengths as a run blocker, he’ll need to improve and refine his game as a pass blocker at the next level. At the end of the day, teams will fall in love with combination of size, athleticism, work ethic, football IQ, and intangibles he brings to the table. If the Birds were even lucky enough for him to fall this far it would be a no brainer pick for the front office.
