Eagles sign TE Richard Rodgers to a one-year deal

4 April 2018 Eagles News

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rappoport the Eagles have signed former Packers TE Richard Rodgers to a one-year deal.

Last season, Rodgers took a back seat to Martellus Bennett while he was there, but did play 30% of the team’s offensive snaps in his absence. However, Rodgers was a big contributor on special teams for the Packers.

His best season was in 2015, when he hauled in 58 receptions for 510 yards with 8 touchdowns, averaging 8.8 yards per reception that season. Last year he had 12 receptions off of 19 targets for 160 yards, splitting snaps with TE Lance Kendricks.

As the Eagles are headed into the draft, this is just another placeholder signing at the tight end position going into the season. Teams usually like to add players prior to the draft to add stability to the roster. The Eagles have a veteran player who can come in as the No.2 TE and compete for snaps, while contributing on special teams.
