Mock draft tracker: Eagles select tight end Dallas Goedert in Bucky Brooks mock draft

23 March 2018 DRAFT Eagles News

After the Eagles free agency period, they are left with a few holes on their roster. Picking 32nd, the Eagles have the luxury of picking the best player on the board, but with a few big needs and limited drafted capital, they might be in a position where they need to reach a certain position. At least, that is what NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks believes the Eagles will do as he has the Eagles taking South Dakota St. tight end Dallas Goedert.

“If the Eagles stick to their “BPA” philosophy (best player available), they could take the dynamic tight end to pair with Zach Ertz to create an explosive “12” personnel package.”

Goedert has all the tools to succeed at this level. In fact, NFL draft expert Lance Zierlein had this to say about Goedert.

“Goedert is a very talented pass catching tight end with the ability to work all three levels of the field. His ball focus and ability to make the spectacular catch will make him the darling of fans and media throughout the draft process, but, he still has work to do. Goedert dominated a lower level of competition and will have to prove he can uncover and block against bigger, more explosive athletes as a pro. The size, speed and talent is there for him to succeed as a very good combo tight end if he works and plays with a little more urgency.”

The Eagles do like to use multiple tight ends and drafting Goedert would give them the option to move himself and Ertz around a lot. Having two tight ends this dangerous would be a huge problem for any team going up against the Eagles. THrowing it back a few years ago, the New England Patriots had an offense that had both Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez and together they were an unstoppable duo. The Eagles could use the formula and form an unstoppable duo of Ertz and Goedert.

When the Eagles are on the clock with their pick they really need to take the best player on their board no matter the position. If Goedert is that guy, so be it. Taking Goedert makes sense because not only could he be a very productive tight end and playmaker for the Eagles, but he fills a hole on their roster.
