Nelson missed most of last season with a torn bicep, but besides that, he was a key special teams player for the Broncos. We know the Eagles really prioritize their special teams unit, so this is a good signing for the team.
As for playing at linebacker, this signing seems much more like a depth kind of signing. Although, Nelson seems like a player with potential who just needs to chance to play.
The Broncos, I'm told, matched the money Corey Nelson will recieve in Philly. But Nelson wanted a larger role. At the start of last season, Vance Joseph said he considered Nelson a starter, much like Bradley Roby as the third corner.

Anyways, the Eagles are always rotating players around and he will get his shot, it is up to him to take it. He is considered a very good cover linebacker who can deal with running backs pretty well, which bolds well for the Eagles. All in all, the Eagles are taking a chance on a player who was a borderline starter in Denver before his injury last season.
