Should the Eagles resign LeGarrette Blount?

19 February 2018 Eagles News

Being a free agent this season, there is no guarantee the Eagles resign running back LeGarrette Blount. However, is he worth bringing back.

The veteran running back ran for 766 yards and two touchdowns. In the biggest game of the year, Blount ran for 90 yards and one touchdown. He was a great player in the locker room and came up big for the Eagles when they needed him the most.

The future is undecided for Blount. Last season, Blount was on a one-year deal with roughly under $2 million invested in him. This season, Blount sounds like he will test the market, but desires to be back with the Eagles.

Blount appeared on NFL network where he talked about his future with the Eagles.

“It’s early, so we’ll see,” Blount said in an appearance on NFL Network’s Total Access . “Obviously, I like it a lot there. They like me, they like me a lot there. It’s a mutual respect and mutual agreement thing about how we feel about each other. Obviously, you guys know how I feel about the guys, about the team. I love those guys.”

From the Eagles sense, is Blount a player you would bring back? Blount definitely played above and beyond his contract. However, by acquiring Jay Ajayi, you’d think you’d think the Eagles want Ajayi to be the lead back now, especially with a full offseason with the team. Also, with the emergence of Corey Clement and the return of Darren Sproles, the running back room is a little packed. There’s also Wendell Smallwood and Donnell Pumphrey in the mix.

Bringing back Blount would give the Eagles that veteran presence again in the very young running back room. However, for the Eagles, it would only make sense if they give him another one-year deal. So, it depends on Blount because if he’s looking for a longer deal with more money, he will most likely not be back with the team and like he said, there is a mutual respect and Blount and the Eagles both know what they can afford to give him in their situation.
