Zach Ertz: Cross tattoo a daily reminder of his priorities in life

Philadelphia Eagles’ TE, Zach Ertz, recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about one of his most valuable possessions: a tattoo of a cross on the inside of his finger.
“This might not be exactly a possession, but it’s the first thing I thought of when you asked me. Last spring, I got this 1-inch-by-1-inch cross tattooed on the inside of my right ring finger. Every day when I wake up, I see it. It’s what I am living for, what I am playing for, what my priority is. Last spring I dedicated my life to Christ. I got baptized, and I got this tattoo. I noticed early in my career, I would get really high after a good game or when something good happened, and really low when things weren’t going well. I didn’t like that. Now I never get too high, never too low,” Ertz told Sports Illustrated’s Peter King.
The Eagles tight end has flashed in recent years and fans have been waiting on his “breakout moment” to arrive in Philadelphia. This season–perhaps with an even-keeled Ertz–the breakout star at the tight end position has been laser-focused for the Birds and has produced one of the best seasons of his career. I mean, it does help with a budding star in Carson Wentz and Alshon Jeffery by his side, but Ertz has played with a fire and passion to his game like no other season before.
The 27-year-old Ertz mentioned that he owes “a lot to some of my teammates” such as Carson Wentz, Jordan Hicks, and former teammate, Jordan Matthews(Buffalo Bills). Whether it’s becoming a better man or better teammate for the Philadelphia Eagles this season, Ertz has made it known that his teammates have been a major influence in his life.
