Eagles add linebacker depth, sign LB Dannell Ellerbe

13 November 2017 Eagles News

Is this the final piece to the Eagles puzzle?

Today, the Eagles announced they have signed former Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.

With cornerback Ronald Darby back this Sunday, swapping cornerback Dexter McDougle for Ellerbe was an easy move. The Eagles needed linebacker depth, as well as experience. Ellerbe played a vital role in the Ravens SuperBowl run back in 2013.

Ellerbe, 31, will immediately help and improve the Eagles linebackers. He has played 77 games in the NFL, totaling 272 tackles, 10.5 sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Ellerbe is a linebacker who likes the get to the quarterback as well as disrupt the run. He is a pretty good fit into an already stout defense.

Ellerbe is giving the Eagles depth and might we say quality depth. Ellerbe is a SuperBowl champion, hard-hitting outside linebacker. The Eagles have yet another tool in which they can use in any way possible. Ellerbe gives them a much needed veteran linebacker who can rush the passer.

Although Ellerbe has struggled with some injuries recently, if he is fully healthy for the Eagles, he will be a key contributor for this team this season.
