The pressure is on for Big V, Eagles need him to not slow down the offense

29 October 2017 Eagles News

Do it for JP!

When Jason Peters left last week’s game versus the Washington Redskins, Halapoulivaati Vaitai (Big V) stepped in and played left tackle for the Eagles. Left tackle is one of the most important players on the field for any team and Big V stepped in seamlessly. Now, with Peters out for the year, the Eagles need Big V to replicate the standard Peters played out in order for them to sustain success this season.

Going into this game versus the San Francisco 49ers, Big V will start the game at left tackle. With that being said, the Eagles offense and quarterback Carson Wentz are red hot right now. Wentz has thrown for 11 touchdowns in his previous three games, staking his claim in the MVP race. However, Wentz is not doing it alone, the Eagles offensive line has been one of the league’s best this season and Jason Peters is one of the few tackles in the league who has not let up a sack.

The Eagles do not expect Big V to be as good as Peters, however, the Eagles need him to play with Peters’ standard. If Big V’s performance versus the Redskins was a sign of things to come, the Eagles will be in good hands. Big V is not Peters, but he is good enough to hold down the fort while Peters is gone.

That is a testament to this Eagles team. Not only do they have depth in an important position, but that depth is quality. Those players CAN come in and do the job of a starter. Big V is not going to be as good as Peters… no one will be…. but Big V will step into this team and protect Wentz’s blindside at a good enough level. Replacing an All-Pro is never going to be easy, but the Eagles have faith in Big V and he will deliver.
