Know the Enemy: The 49ers defense has really struggled, Eagles will take advantage
28 October 2017 Eagles News
The San Fransisco 49ers are a team in a complete rebuild. With that being said, they are going to have to suffer a little before things get better. Coming to Philadelphia to play the league-leading Eagles is going to be a rough outing for the 49ers. The 49ers have struggled offensively this season, but the big problem lies within their defense.
Rewind a few years back, the 49ers were known for their defense. They were dominant against the run and against the pass. Although coaches have changed and players have left, their identity has completely changed.
This season, the 49ers are ranked 29th in the NFL against the run. They have given up 942 yards and eight touchdowns on just 240 carries this season. That is an average of 135 yards and one touchdown a game. Those numbers are not good enough in the NFL and if things do not change, the 0-7 49ers will lose every game this season.
Their run defense has been woeful, but unfortunately for them, their pass defense does not get much better. This unit ranks 27th in the NFL, allowing on average 259 yards. All together, they have allowed 1,810 yards and 12 touchdowns. Also, opposing quarterbacks manage to get an average QBR of 98.5.
The 49ers do possess a pretty good pass rush as they have been able to sack opposing quarterbacks 14 times, which is an average of about two a game. With a banged up Eagles offensive line, this is going to be their only worry going into this game.
With the Eagles offense playing at such a high level, the 49ers defense is really going to struggle to defend them. Carson Wentz is playing too good right now too struggle even a little bit versus this team. With a defense this bad, this should for the Eagles.
